Early 50s British dance band singer. A Londoner, from Tottenham by birth, he was born in 1928.

The Savoy Orpheans were a British dance band of the 1920s. They were resident at the Savoy Hotel, London, between 1923 and 1927.

The band was formed by Debroy Somers, an ex-army bandmaster, in 1923. Both the Orpheans and the Savoy Havana Band were under the management of William de Mornys. The Orpheans were later led by the violinist Cyril Ramon Newton, and by the pianist Carroll Gibbons. On 15 June 1925, Somers conducted the Orpheans in the first British performance of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, alongside the Savoy Havana Band and Gershwin himself on piano. The performance was broadcast live by the BBC.

The Savoy Orpheans name was revived by the Savoy Hotel in April 2022, and Alex Mendham was appointed bandleader and musical director of the reformed group

Walter Glynne (4 January 1890 – 29 July 1970) was a Welsh operatic and concert tenor who was also a popular recording artist......as a recording artiste, and he became particularly well-known for his recordings of ballads. In 1921 Glynne gained a recording contract with HMV.

Josephine Owaissa Cottle (April 5, 1922 – June 27, 2009), known professionally as Gale Storm, was an American actress and singer. After a film career from 1940 to 1952, she starred in two popular television programs of the 1950s, My Little Margie and The Gale Storm Show. Six of her songs were top ten hits. Storm's greatest recording success was a cover version of "I Hear You Knockin'," which hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1955.

Her first record, "I Hear You Knockin'", a cover version of a rhythm and blues hit by Smiley Lewis, sold over a million copies.

Friedrich "Fritz" Kreisler (February 2, 1875 – January 29, 1962) was an Austrian-born American violinist and composer. One of the most noted violin masters of his day, and regarded as one of the greatest violinists of all time, he was known for his sweet tone and expressive phrasing. Like many great violinists of his generation, he produced a characteristic sound which was immediately recognizable as his own. 

He made his United States debut at the Steinway Hall in New York City on November 10, 1888, and his first tour of the United States in 1888–1889 with Moriz Rosenthal.

Gaetano Alberto "Guy" Lombardo (June 19, 1902 – November 5, 1977) was a Canadian-American bandleader, violinist, and hydroplane racer.

Lombardo formed the Royal Canadians in 1924 with his brothers Carmen, Lebert and Victor, and other musicians from his hometown. They billed themselves as creating "the sweetest music this side of Heaven." The Lombardos are believed to have sold between 100 and 300 million records during their lifetimes, many featuring the band's lead singer from 1940 onward, Kenny Gardner.

Although Lombardo's "sweet" big-band music was viewed by some in the jazz and big-band community of the day as "boring, mainstream pap," trumpeter Louis Armstrong regularly named Lombardo's band his favourite orchestra.

Paul Samuel Whiteman (March 28, 1890 – December 29, 1967) was an American bandleader, composer, orchestral director, and violinist.As the leader of one of the most popular dance bands in the United States during the 1920s and early 1930s, Whiteman produced recordings that were immensely successful, and press notices often referred to him as the "King of Jazz". His most popular recordings include "Whispering", "Valencia", "Three O'Clock in the Morning", "In a Little Spanish Town", and "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers". Whiteman led a usually large ensemble and explored many styles of music, such as blending symphonic music and jazz, as in his debut of Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin.

David Carroll (October 15, 1913 – March 22, 2008) was an American studio arranger, conductor, and musical director.

Musical director for Mercury from 1951 to the early 1960s. As studio arranger and conductor, Carroll played on numerous Top 40 hits, backing the Crew Cuts on their #1 hit, "Sh-Boom" and Rusty Draper on his "Shifting, Whispering Sands".

David Hughes (born Geoffrey Paddison; 11 October 1925 – 19 October 1972) was an English pop and opera singer.

He appeared often in the 1950s on television and radio. These shows included Presenting David Hughes, Sunday Night at the London Palladium and two series of his own show Make Mine Music (1959).

Pasquale Troise (1895 – 1957) was born in Naples in 1895. He came to Great Britain during the 1920, first as a member of the London Radio Dance Band, but soon founded his own orchestra, the Selecta Plectrum Mandoline Orchestra, which was later renamed to Troise and his Mandoliers. When the banjo became more popular than the mandolin (mainly because it was louder) the orchestra replaced the mandolins by banjos and played as Troise and his Banjoliers. The orchestra existed from the 1930s until 1957 directed by Troise, and continued until the early 1970s then conducted by Jack Mandel. 

Quentin Maclean was one of the most beloved church and theatre organists of the mid-20th century, pursuing a dual career as a performer and recording artist that encompassed both popular and classical music, in addition to being a composer and teacher. Born Quentin Stuart Morvaren Maclean in London in 1896.

Maclean soon found himself in demand as a popular musician, and spent the years 1921-1939 playing the organ at various British movie palaces. From 1925 onward, he was also a fixture on the BBC.

 He made numerous 78 rpm recordings in the '20s and '30s, for EMI's Columbia label, among other major imprints, among them a version of "Rhapsody in Blue" adapted for his instrument, and pop standards such as "Body and Soul," "With a Song in My Heart," "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes," "Watching My Dreams Go By," "Miner's Dream of Home," "Just a Wee Deoch and Doris," and medleys such as "Parade of the Tin Soldiers"/"The Mosquitos Parade"/"My Love Parade." Maclean was one of the most celebrated organists of his day.

The Quintette du Hot Club de France ("The Quintet of the Hot Club of France"), often abbreviated "QdHCdF" or "QHCF", was a jazz group founded in France in 1934 by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli and active in one form or another until 1948.
ne of the earliest and most significant continental jazz groups in Europe, the Quintette was described by critic Thom Jurek as "one of the most original bands in the history of recorded jazz." Their most famous lineup featured Reinhardt, Grappelli, bassist Louis Vola, and rhythm guitarists Roger Chaput and Joseph Reinhardt (Django's brother) who filled out the ensemble's sound and added occasional percussion.

 Edward Victor "Teddy" Johnson (4 September 1919 – 6 June 2018) was an English entertainer who gained  highest profile during the 1950s and early 1960s.

He was offered a recording contract by Columbia Records and returned to London to begin a successful recording career. His first record was "Beloved, Be Faithful" and it reached No. 11 in the sheet music sales chart in 1950. In total, he cut 60 sides for the Columbia label as a solo artist enjoying several hits including "Tennessee Waltz" and "I'll Always Love You". He was also a DJ on BBC Radio 2 as the first presenter of the popular programme "All Time Greats".

Pearl Carr and Johnson were married in 1955 and remained so for 63 years. They became known professionally as "Mr. and Mrs. Music" and were frequently on British television light entertainment programmes, such as The Winifred Atwell Show as well as "Big Night Out", "Two of a kind" (with Morecambe and Wise), "Sunday night at the London Palladium", "The Arthur Haynes Show", "Thank your lucky stars", "Blackpool Night Out" and were regulars on the children's TV show "Crackerjack!" with Eamonn Andrews and Ronnie Corbett. They were part of a record breaking season at the London Palladium with Bruce Forsyth and were chosen to appear in "The Royal Variety Performance" in 1960.They represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 1959 and finished second with the song "Sing, Little Birdie". This song peaked at No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart

Les Paul and Mary Ford were a popular 1950s husband-and-wife musical duo who performed and recorded during 1945–1963. They both sang and played guitars.

Ford and Paul were music superstars during the first half of the 1950s, putting out 28 hits for Capitol Records between 1950 and 1957, including "Tiger Rag", "Vaya con Dios" (11 weeks at No. 1), "Mockin' Bird Hill" (top 10), "How High the Moon" (nine weeks at No. 1), "Bye Bye Blues" and "The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise".

Paul and Ford are famous for creating a makeshift recording studio in their garage. In their garage studio, they used multitrack recording to record many of their hits including ‘Lover’, ‘Nola’, ‘Brazil’ and ‘Whispering' with only the two of them.

Franklin Joseph Lymon (September 30, 1942 – February 27, 1968 was an American rock and roll/rhythm and blues singer and songwriter, best known as the boy soprano lead singer of the New York City-based early rock and roll doo wop group The Teenagers. The group was composed of five boys, all in their early to mid-teens. The original lineup of the Teenagers, an integrated group, included three African-American members, Frankie Lymon, Jimmy Merchant, and Sherman Garnes; and two Puerto Rican members, Joe Negroni and Herman Santiago. The Teenagers' first single, 1956's "Why Do Fools Fall in Love", was also their biggest hit. After Lymon went solo in mid-1957, both his career and that of the Teenagers fell into decline. He was found dead at the age of 25 on the floor of his grandmother's bathroom from a heroin overdose. His life was dramatized in the 1998 film Why Do Fools Fall In Love.

               Foden's Motor Works Band (1904)                    (1968/70)

Foden's Band (originally Foden's Motor Works Band, and variants with sponsors' names) is a brass band from Sandbach in Cheshire. The band derives its name from the Foden manufacturer of trucks in Sandbach. Foden's Band are one of the top brass bands in the world; regularly appearing at the top of the "World of Brass – World Rankings" In 2012, Foden's became double winners of both the National Championships and the British Open.

On 9 November 1933, the band appeared in the Lord Mayor's Show in London, billed as the Band of Foden Motor Works.The band has been ordered to play by Royal Command on three occasions: in 1913 for George V and Queen Mary, in 1938 at Windsor Castle for George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and most recently in 1983 where the band had the honour of playing for Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

Patience Ann McIntyre (born August 15, 1942) and Prudence Ann McIntyre (born July 12, 1945), known professionally as Patience and Prudence, are two sisters who were a young vocal duo active from 1956 to 1964.As youngsters, the girls studied piano and learned to read music. In the summer of 1956, their father brought 11-year-old Prudence and 14-year-old Patience into the Liberty Records studio in Los Angeles.The duo made a demonstration recording of the song, "Tonight You Belong to Me," which had been a hit for Gene Austin in 1927, Liberty signed them and immediately released a recording of the girls singing the song as a commercial single (with the B-side, "A Smile and a Ribbon," and by September the song reached #4 on the Billboard charts and #28 in the UK Singles Chart, and was the biggest selling record put out by Liberty for two years. It sold over one million copies and reached gold record status. It went on to become one of the best-selling singles in the United States in September 1956.Their song "Gonna Get Along Without Ya Now" reached #11 on the Billboard chart and #22 in the UK. its B-side, "The Money Tree," reached #73 in the U.S. They appeared on the Perry Como Show on television in September of that same year.

David Daniel Rose (June 15, 1910 – August 23, 1990) was an American songwriter, composer, arranger, pianist, and orchestra leader. His best known compositions were "The Stripper", "Holiday for Strings", and "Calypso Melody". 

In 1957, his rendition of Larry Clinton's "Calypso Melody" became Rose's second million selling record, and was awarded a gold disc."The Stripper", released in 1962, was composed by Rose in 1958 for a television special saluting burlesque. The song featured especially prominent trombone lines, giving the tune its lascivious signature, and evokes the feel of music used to accompany burlesque striptease artists. Four years after the song was recorded, MGM Records wanted to rush-release Rose's recording of "Ebb Tide" as a 45-rpm single, but needed a B-side. An office boy went through some of Rose's tapes searching for one, and "The Stripper" was chosen. It became a surprise hit, receiving much radio play."Holiday for Strings" became well known as the theme for Red Skelton's programs.

Felicia Sanders (born Felice Schwartz; c. 1922 – February 7, 1975) was a singer and musician of traditional pop music.In 1950 she was singing in a nightclub in Hollywood, Café Gala. She was heard there by Benny Carter, who thought enough of her talent to recommend her to Mitch Miller, Columbia Records' artist and repertory director. She was picked in 1953 by Percy Faith, Columbia's biggest orchestra leader, to sing vocals on a song he was recording, taken from the film Moulin Rouge—a biographical film about Toulouse-Lautrec."The Song from Moulin Rouge" was recorded on January 22, 1953, as the B-side of a recording of "Swedish Rhapsody". It was Sanders' second record, and it was released by Columbia with the credits shown as "Percy Faith and his Orchestra featuring Felicia Sanders." 

Miller kept finding other songs to have her sing, but only one other scored among the Top 30: "Blue Star", based on the theme from a well-known television series, Medic.
