Alexander's Accordions--Tommy Steele--The Deep River Boys--Jack Hylton--Malcolm Vaughan--Barbara Lyon

It amazes me when I record some of these old and worn 78's and play them back on the computer...when I remember how they sounded on my wind up Gramophone and the early record players...even some of the very old 30's & 40's 78's sound great...hardly any surface noise and clicks....of course there are exceptions and some of the recordings are a bit ropey !!...but on the whole transferring then to digital with a filter to keep the clicks at bay, sound cool !!!....so here is another load to keep all the people that do remember going into their local record shops and choosing 3 or 4 to listen to in a booth and buy what you enjoyed..

                                                        Barbara Lyon
Barbara Bebe Lyon (September 9, 1931 – July 10, 1995) was a singer of popular songs and an actress, born in the United States but primarily active in the United Kingdom.
She was born in Hollywood, California. Her parents, Ben Lyon and Bebe Daniels, were both Hollywood actors, beginning in silent films with careers extending into the 1930s.
From 1950 to 1961 they had a radio programme on the BBC, Life With The Lyons. Ben, Bebe, Barbara, and Barbara's brother Richard all played themselves on this show.
In the 1950s, both Barbara and Richard began their own independent careers; Richard recorded one single, but primarily found his career to be as an actor, both in the UK and the US. With Barbara, the situation was reversed: she did some acting, but found more popularity as a singer.

Josephine Bradley MBE (24 March 1893 – 16 February 1985) was a ballroom dancer and dance teacher. Although born in Dublin, she was raised from an early age in London, the youngest of eight children. Bradley was among the first ballroom dance professionals of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) who standardised the basic techniques of foxtrot, tango, quickstep and waltz. These are the English ballroom dances of what is now the World Dance Council's International Dancesport category. For her activities she had earned herself an informal title "The First Lady of the Ballroom".
Bradley became one of the few women to lead a British band between 1920–1950; others included Ivy Benson and Mrs. Jack Hilton. Bradley set up her group in 1935, mainly as a recording band for Decca: Josephine Bradley and her Ballroom Orchestra. She had already, in 1930, directed the New Mayfair Dance Orchestra for HMV. Between March 1937 and October 1945 she recorded over 200 sides for Decca. Bradley's recordings sold well, and represent "the very best of ballroom music over half a century after they were made".

Sir Hubert Pimm was a British pianist and singer who recorded popular songs in the 1950s under the pseudonym of Sir Hubert Pimm. His real name was Jimmy MacDonald. Some of his songs include “A Broken Engagement”, “I Wanna Say Hello”, and “Cool Water Blues”. You can listen to some of his recordings on YouTube or Archive.org.

Ellen Sutton is a 1950s singer with a powerful, husky voice best remembered for the upbeat and rollicking "I Wanna Say Hello" (1952) featuring honky tonk piano accompaniment by Sir Hubert Pimm.

The Weavers were an American folk music quartet based in the Greenwich Village area of New York City. They sang traditional folk songs from around the world, as well as blues, gospel music, children's songs, labor songs, and American ballads, and sold millions of records at the height of their popularity. Their style inspired the commercial "folk boom" that followed them in the 1950s and 1960s, including such performers as the Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul, and Mary, the Rooftop Singers, the Seekers, Joan Baez, Don Mclean and Bob Dylan.
"Terry" Gilkyson, singer and songwriter, wrote several of the biggest hit records of the early 1950s. His "Memories are Made of This" became both a number one song for Dean Martin in 1956 and a clever catchphrase for the nostalgia boom. He recorded two albums of folk songs, The Solitary Singer, volumes 1 and 2, in 1950 and 1951, but had his first hit record in 1951 when he joined The Weavers, with "On Top of Old Smokey".

The Stargazers were a British vocal group, jointly founded in 1949 by Cliff Adams and Ronnie Milne. Other original members were Marie Benson, Fred Datchler and Dick James.
Very shortly after the group made their first broadcasts with BBC Radio on such programs as Workers' Playtime, Dick James decided to resume his career as a solo vocalist, left the group, and was replaced by Bob Brown. Ronnie Milne took care of the musical arranging, while Cliff Adams became their manager, in addition to contributing scores for the group. In September 1953, Milne left the Stargazers to emigrate to Canada, and was replaced in the group by Dave Carey. The group served as backing vocalists for Petula Clark on her first recordings.

Marion Ryan (4 February 1931 – 15 January 1999) was a popular British singer in the 1950s.
She was once called "the Marilyn Monroe of popular song", Marion Ryan was a pop singer of the 1950s in the early years of British Independent Television. Her song "Love Me Forever" peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart in 1958. She was the regular singer in the popular musical quiz Spot the Tune on Granada Television for seven years from 1956, with a total of 209 half-hour programmes.

Sir Thomas Hicks, OBE (born 17 December 1936), known professionally as Tommy Steele, is an English entertainer, regarded as Britain's first teen idol and rock and roll star. He reached number one with "Singing the Blues" in 1957, and The Tommy Steele Story was the first album by a UK act to reach number 1 in his native country.
Steele's film credits include Half a Sixpence, The Happiest Millionaire and Finian's Rainbow and he has made many stage tours in the UK. He is also a songwriter, author and sculptor.
